Janie Starnes

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Janie Starnes, 89, of Harrisburg, passed away 2:17 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, in the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 16, 1918, in Scott City, Mo., the daughter of Erskin and Edna Proffer Miller. She was married to Melvin O. Starnes on Sept. 6, 1936, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1991.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Harrisburg and the Pride of Arrow Rebekah Lodge No. 234.

Survivors include three sons, Francis "Frank" Starnes of Morton, Robert "Bob" Starnes of Carrier Mills and James "Jim" Starnes of Owensboro, Ky.; one daughter, Janice "Jan" Dunn of Harrisburg; two brothers, Marvin Miller of Kansas City, Kan. and Francis Miller of Shreveport, La.; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a daughter, Myrna Owen; and a son, Everett "Bud" Starnes. Also three sisters preceded her, Christina McGhee, Jeanette Sneed and Geneva Godwin.

Services were 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at the J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Leroy Hicks officiating. Friends called after 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial was private.
