Seven new Green Line stops planned through Medford, Somerville
Seven new Green Line stops were announced Tuesday at a Green Line Extension project advisory board.
And five of them are in Somerville. Medford gets two stops, one just north of Ball Square and one just off of Tufts University. The other five stops are all in Somerville.
They will be by the Brickbottom artist studios, in Gilman Square at Medford Street, on Lowell Street on the eastern side of the MaxPak property, by Ball Square, on Boston Avenue in Medford, and on Medford Hillside.
There will also be a 10-acre plot of land taken up by Inner Belt Road to make room for a maintenance facility.
And if you live in Ball Square, the MBTA and EOT might take your backyard away.
Presenting the location to the board, Project designer Mike Mcardle, a developer with Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, said planners had "met with a lot of opposition from members of the community," when he proposed locating the station on Harvard Street, so they decided to move the station to the corner of Broadway and Boston Avenue.
