Comedian Jim Breuer a man of many frat-boy faces
"Hey, man, you know, like, wow, dude."
Jim Breuer will probably say at least three of these things at his show Saturday night at the Cabaret Theatre at Mohegan Sun. Breuer has made a nice living by playing a goofy, frat-boy funny guy. With a four-year run on "Saturday Night Live" and a lot of play on TV (VH1's "Web Junk 20") and radio ("The Opie and Anthony Show"), he's been able to remain fresh as he enters the fourth decade of his life.
For Gen-X'rs, Breuer is one of the best comics of his time. He's delivered many memorable college-humor moments. Among them:
"Alcohol": A bit made popular on "The Opie and Anthony Show," Breuer compares a night of drinking to a party in your stomach. In short, if you stick to beer - your good friends - you'll be fine. But once you bring in mixed company (scotch, tequila), you're in big trouble.
Goat Boy: The host of the MTV show "Hey! Remember the '80s," Goat Boy was half-man, half-goat, and would gradually become more goat-like as the show proceeded. Breuer said he thought up the idea for Goat Boy while watching goats in a zoo - while stoned.
AC/DC: If anyone can cover an AC/DC song on his own, it's Breuer. From wheeling on the floor like Angus Young to screaming with intensity like Brian Johnson (or Bon Scott), he's a one-man "Thunderstruck."
"Half Baked": If one movie role has defined Breuer, it's "Half Baked," where he plays Brian, one of three perenially stoned friends who begin a drug dealing operation to help save their friend, Kenny. A memorable moment is when Breuer's Brian asks for a shopping list of food (sour cream and onion chips, Haagen-Dazs, Cap'n Crunch).
"Welcome Freshmen": No, not memorable, but intriguing. This Nickolodeon sitcom about the struggles of high school freshmen gave Breuer his first TV break. He played "ambiguous bully" in an episode about bullies. At least Breuer didn't move too far from his roots.
