Catch Red Sox exhibits at Newbury Fine Arts, MFA

The Red Sox swing into spring at two other Boston art galleries. On display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is "Rockwell and the Shinjin: Celebrating Baseball and the Red Sox."

Like the hometown team, the exhibit opens Tuesday. Highlights are Norman Rockwell's beloved "The Rookie," a painting that depicts the Red Sox locker room in 1957 and a 2004 World Series Championship ring, bases from both the 2004 and 2007 Series, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Hideki Okajima home jerseys, a pair of Dice-K's cleats and baseballs. Also on display are photographs, lithographs and charcoal drawings that pay tribute to the history of baseball. The exhibit is on display through July 20. Head to the Newbury Fine Arts Gallery in the Back Bay to view "Boston Champs II," a painting by Opie Otterstad commemorating last season's World Series championship. Since 2003, Otterstad has been sanctioned by Major League Baseball to create artwork for the incumbent World Series champions that captures the essence of the team's on-the-field World Series celebration.

Otterstad created 207 canvas paintings featuring Sox players from the 2007 team.

The painting captures a triumphant moment at Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies moments after the Sox won Game 4.

The dimensions of the painting are 19-by-41 inches. Each is numbered, autographed and costs $1,750.

The painting is on display through April 24. A meet-the-artist event is from 1 to 4 p.m. April 6. Newbury Fine Arts is at 29 Newbury St.
