Governor to visit Fairview School, Civil War Battle site, interchange
More details have been released about Gov. Matt Blunt's planned activities during his daylong visit to Carthage today.
Blunt has declared Carthage "Capital for the Day." The governor, members of his cabinet and other state officials will set up at tables in the Jasper County Courthouse in Carthage and meet with residents.
According to the governor's office, Blunt and his cabinet will hold office hours at the courthouse from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., then the governor and the cabinet directors will fan out across town and tour a variety of places, including regional offices in the area.
The governor's office said Blunt will tour Fairview Elementary School, 1201 E. Fairview Ave., at 2:20 p.m. At 2:55 p.m., Blunt will tour the Battle of Carthage State Park at the intersection of River and East Chestnut streets.
Then at 4:10 p.m., he will speak about the Missouri Department of Transportation's Smoother Safer Sooner Roads initiative at the new interchange between U.S. Highway 71 and Fairview Avenue.
Department meeting
Carthage Chamber President John Bode said in conjunction with Blunt's visit, the Department of Insurance, Banking and Professional Registration will meet with the public from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. today in the basement meeting hall at Memorial Hall.
He said anyone interested in insurance, banking and professional regulation can meet with this department.
Eggs and Issues
The state representatives from southwest Missouri will speak to residents and local business leaders at an Eggs and Issues event, slated for 7 a.m. today at the First Assembly of God Church on Baker Street in Carthage.
The event is sponsored by the Chambers of Commerce of Carthage, Joplin, Webb City and Neosho.
John Bode, director of the Carthage Chamber said, Sen. Gary Nodler and State Rep. Steve Hunter, Ed Emery, Ron Richard, Bryan Stephenson, Marilyn Ruestman, Kevin Wilson and others from around this area are invited to the event which starts with a scrambled egg breakfast.
Cost is $5 per person.
Bode said a second Eggs and Issues event will take place at 7 a.m., March 28., also at the First Assembly of God Church.
This event will allow candidates for city and school seats in Carthage to speak to the public before the April elections.
