Mike Nadel: Contreras tries to turn shame into success

Can extreme humiliation ace out old age, a wretched recent history and questionable mental toughness? For the sake of their 2008 season, the White Sox sure hope that's the case with Jose Contreras.

"Contreras has pride," Ozzie Guillen said. "What he did last year, Contreras was beyond embarrassed. One day, he came into my office and cried. That's why he'll do better. He doesn't want to go through another year like that, believe me."
