Many teams - whether they're in high school, college or the pros - have assistant coaches on staff whose role is to focus on a specific aspect of the game, or the team. In football, there's an offensive coordinator, for example, and a defensive coordinator. There are other coaches who may oversee the linebackers, the quarterbacks or special teams.
