Three people shot in Roslindale after funeral

One man is dead and two others were injured Wednesday afternoon when the livery car carrying the men from a funeral in Roxbury was riddled with bullets in a normally quiet Roslindale neighborhood.

The shooting, at the intersection of Poplar Street and Metropolitan Avenue, was discovered by police responding to an unrelated incident on Beech Street near the Phineas Bates School around 1:15 p.m.

The uninjured driver, according to police, spotted an officer and told him that the three men in his car had been shot. The victims, according to Area E-5 Police Capt. James Hasson and Boston Police Deputy Superintendent Michael Cox, were between 17 and 24 years old.

Hasson also said schools were never locked down Wednesday, as had been reported.
