Slideshow: McCune-Brooks Hospital dedicated
Residents of Carthage got their best chance to view the inside of the new McCune-Brooks Regional Hospital at the public open house, held Sunday, Jan. 6.
Areas of the $47 million hospital that will be closed to the public once the hospital starts operating from the new location were open fir viewing, and people had the chance to see what the individual patient rooms looked like, what the emergency room looked like and other areas of the hospital.
More than 750 people took advantage of the opportunity and viewed the hospital and manicured grounds, including the running stream in the central courtyard and the four-acre pond in the rear of the building.
Hospital CEO Robert Copeland said the huge windows of the hospital were included to bring the healing powers of nature and water inside to the patients and staff.
Local dignitaries, such as Mayor Jim Woestman, Don LaFerla, chairman of the Hospital Board of Trustees, Tom Flanigan, city council member and head of the hospital foundation, and others, spoke during the 45-minute open house ceremony.
Then the public got the chance to roam the halls and see the various departments in the new building.
McCune-Brooks will spend next week moving out to the new building. The Emergency Room will move its operation to the new building early on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 18, and patients will be moved to the new building on Wednesday and Thursday.
Other departments will set up shop at the new building throughout the week.
