Southern Illinois educators turning to certification process popular in the north

An extra certification process for teachers popular in northern Illinois is slowly receiving attention from southern Illinois educators looking to enhance their teaching skills.

More than 500 Illinois teachers were certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2007 through a process requiring content knowledge and self-examination of teaching methods.
