Mom acquitted in son's attack on Ogle teen

A woman accused of helping her son lure a teenage girl to be beaten was acquitted by an Ogle County judge, court records show.

Kimberly Sheffield was charged with aggravated battery in August, after her son and his teenage girlfriend staged an attack on another girl outside Stillman Valley's Highland Elementary School. She was found not guilty of that charge Wednesday, records show.

Sheffield's 16-year-old son, his 16-year-old girlfriend and her mother, Jodie Saubert, all pleaded guilty to the same charge. During the Aug. 16 incident, Sheffield's son asked the victim to meet him outside the school, where she was beaten by Saubert's daughter.

The victim suffered broken bones and several of her teeth were knocked out, police officials said. Saubert is said to have driven her daughter to the school and drank alcohol with her before the incident. She also cheered on the attack.

The names of the teens won't be released because they are juveniles protected by state privacy laws.

Sheffield was the only defendant whose case went to trial.
