WEEK IN WEIRD: Compilation of weird stories from GateHouse papers.
VETERANS DAY: Several stories planned: Look for them in news and in regional news. Here are a couple:
EULOGY CARDS REDISCOVERED: Relatives of East High School's 34 Gold Star Boys still cry when they speak of the loss and the impact it had on subsequent generations. Eulogy cards, prepared by the school's principal and stashed away for more than 60 years, recently were rediscovered at the school. The Gold Star Boys, the youngest 18, the eldest 21, served and died on every battlefront of the war, from Iwo Jima to Germany, from the South Pacific to Yugoslavia. They were in every branch of service, as well as the Merchant Marines. Their principal remembers them as fine athletes, scholars, hardworking kids who helped support their families. We tell the stories of four Gold Star Boys and of the principal, who out of respect for their valor, tried to ensure that they would be remembered. ROCKFORD/embargoed until Sunday.
