Friends, family to remember HFL grad at memorial tomorrow

Honeoye Falls-Lima High School is mourning once again over the loss of a graduate.

Almost three months to the day after the death of 2006 graduate Cameron Buchanan, 2007 grad and Mendon resident Devin Lurain, 19, was found dead Friday, Oct. 26, in his dorm room at Florida Gulf Coast University. Mr. Lurain was a freshman pre-management major at the Fort Myers, Fla., college.

Mr. Lurain's roommate found him shortly after 1 p.m., said university spokeswoman Susan Evans. After calling 911, the college's police arrived and requested emergency medical technicians, but they were unable to revive him. Foul play is not suspected and there was no sign of violence in his room, Evans said.

An autopsy was performed at the Lee County Medical Examiner's Office, where representatives said they wouldn't have results from a toxicology report for up to eight to 10 weeks to determine the cause of death.

"It's a real shame because he had just joined us as a freshman," Evans said. "It's a real tragedy. It's not the kind of thing you ever want to call a parent and tell them what has happened to their child."

At HF-L, Mr. Lurain participated in the school's chorus and played lacrosse. He also worked at Guida's Pizzeria in Honeoye Falls.

Friends and family members will host a celebration of Mr. Lurain's life at 2 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home Inc., 59 Monroe St., Honeoye Falls.

Mr. Lurain is survived by his mother, Sher, and brother, Todd. His father, Stephen, died while Mr. Lurain was a freshman at HF-L.
