You choose: Blackstone vs. Franklin
A pair of teenage brothers from Blackstone and a Franklin elementary school music teacher are finalists in a Boston radio station's townie tune contest after writing two completely different songs praising their beloved towns.
Derek and Steven Tata - who wrote and recorded "Blackstone B. Goode" - and James Barrett - who wrote and recorded "(The City Known as the Town of) Franklin" - were chosen as two of the 10 finalists by on-line voters in 105.7 WROR's morning show contest, said Jamie Martel, promotions coordinator for the station.
Voters have until 5 p.m. Wednesday to cast their vote on www.WROR.com and the winner will be announced in front of a live studio audience Thursday morning beginning at 7:20 on the Loren & Wally Morning Show, said Martel.
Tom Doyle - a comedian and writer for the morning show - writes and records his own parodies for the station and decided to give listeners a chance to write a townie parody, said Martel.
The grandprize winner will receive a $5,000 royalty check and Doyle will record their song, according to a press release.
The station received more 80 entries for the contest, said Martel.
