Doug Goodman: Deer harvest down for youths
<p align="justify">The harvest during Illinois' Youth Deer Hunt was 897, down from 1,099 last year.
<p align="justify">Department of Natural Resources officials blame the unseasonably warm weather Oct. 7-8 for the lower harvest.
<p align="justify">The state issued 5,206 permits, compared with 3,654 last year.
<p align="justify">The young hunters killed 481 does and 416 bucks.
<p align="justify">The top five counties were Pike (39), Jefferson (34), Fulton (33), Marion (31) and Macoupin (27).
<p align="left">Fishing guide dies after fall
<p align="justify">The funeral for fishing guide Dominic "Big Knobs" Culjan, 57, is today in Utica.
<p align="justify">He died Tuesday at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria after falling 15 feet from a treestand Sept. 30.
<p align="left">Another bighead carp found
<p align="justify">A commercial fisherman netted a 29-pound bighead Asian carp in Lake Pepin this week in Minnesota.
<p align="justify">It was the second bighead found in the lake, which is a wide spot in the Mississippi River at the southeastern corner of Minnesota.
<p align="justify">The first one was found four years ago.
<p align="left">Fishing gear swap meet set
<p align="justify">The Shabbona Lake Sportsman Club's fishing gear swap meet and flea market is 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 1 at Shabbona High School, 506 S. Shabbona Road, Shabbona.
<p align="justify">Admission is $2. Seller's tags are available for $5.
<p align="justify">Dan Basore will appraise antique lures, fishing poles, reels and other fishing gear. Muskie guide Ron Fulk, fishing guide Jay Angel and "Crappie Professor" Jim Kopjo will attend.

<p align="left">USYF receives $5,000 grant
<p align="justify">The United Sportsmen's Youth Foundation of Freeport was one of six groups to share $29,000 in grants from the Illinois Conservation Foundation.
<p align="justify">The USYF received $5,000 for a youth river cleanup and educational habitat workshop.
<p align="left">Fishing banquet tickets on sale
<p align="justify">Tickets are available for the eighth annual Fishing for the Future banquet Nov. 10 at the UAW Hall in Belvidere.
<p align="justify">The fundraising event, sponsored by the Coon Creek Casters, provides money for area scholarships, fish stockings and youth events.
<p align="justify">The $40 tickets include a prime rib dinner, door prizes and auctions.
<p align="justify">Doors open at 5 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m.
