Beardstown murder suspect gave police a fake name
<p class="BODY" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Imperial">Police here said Wednesday that a man who was arrested in Monday morning's shooting death of Jacob Leyva Leon gave authorities a fake name. </font>
<p class="BODY" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">
<p class="BODY" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Imperial">Jesus E. Gomez, 25, of Beardstown was taken into custody more than three hours after allegedly shooting Leon in the front yard of an apartment building at Eighth and State streets.</font>
<p class="BODY" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">
<p class="BODY" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Imperial">He originally gave police an alias of Rene Velazquez and an age of 22. That information was released to the media. </font>
<p class="BODY" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">
<p class="BODY" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Imperial">Gomez is being held in the Schuyler County Jail on a first-degree murder charge. </font>
<p class="BODY" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Imperial">Beardstown police said the shooting occurred about 3:30 a.m. after an earlier argument between Gomez and Leon. </font>
<p class="BODY" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">
<p class="BODY" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Imperial">Witnesses identified Gomez as the gunman and gave police a description of the car in which he fled. Police later found him hiding inside a garage in the 500 block of West Seventh Street and the car in the 1000 block of Jackson Street. </font>

<p class="BODY" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Imperial">The homicide was Beardstown's first in 11 years. </font>
