Prairie therapy: Tall grasses and forbs working their magic

A 10-acre, tall-grass prairie outside of Edelstein is only six years old, but it is already working its restorative therapy on the environment.

Two years after prairie seeds were planted on the property, a pond that used to fill with algal blooms became crystal clear. Water gushes out of drainage tiles in surrounding farm fields, but the prairie field now soaks up water like a sponge. No water drains off the prairie.
