Apartment building fire termed ‘suspicious'

An early morning fire at a vacant two-story apartment building kept firefighters busy this morning.

The porch area of the wood frame structure in the 800 block of 14th Street was ablaze when fire crews arrived just before 5 a.m.

The blaze was under control a half-hour later but not before causing $25,000 damage, according to a department release.

Upon arrival, search and rescue teams searched the building to make sure nobody was inside. Firefighters remained on scene for about 2 and a half hours.
