Truck driver hit by rock; eighth in a week along Rte. 9

A box truck traveling east on Rte. 9 in Shrewsbury Thursday was at least the eighth vehicle to be hit by rocks in recent weeks, police said.

The first incident was reported in Westborough on July 11. All incidents have taken place on Rte. 9.

According to Shrewsbury police, at 5:24 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, they received a call from Thomas P. O'Toole, 57, of Jewett, N.Y. who had sustained a wound to his forehead after a rock was thrown through the driver's side window and hit him in the head.

O'Toole's car was struck by a total of three rocks, two of which bounced off his windshield, according to police.

O'Toole was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center for treatment and remained alert during the entire incident, police stated.
