List of "pork" projects in state operations budget

The proposed state government operating budget for fiscal 2008, which the House approved Thursday, includes millions of dollars for "member initiatives," also referred to as lawmakers' pet projects or "pork." Legislative sources have said the projects account for as much as $200 million in the $27.8 billion operations budget.

Here are some of the central Illinois projects, grouped roughly by region:

SPRINGFIELD AREA

$450,000 to the Jacksonville High School District #117 for installation of a new sprinkler system.

$300,000 to the Springfield medical district for costs associated with planning.

$50,000 to the Springfield medical district for operations.

$300,000 to the Jacksonville Central Illinois Labor Temple for restoration work.

$260,000 to the city of Auburn for renovation of Red Bud Park.

$240,000 to the village of Pleasant Plains for construction of a wastewater collection and treatment system.

$200,000 to the city of Petersburg for the Petersburg Highway and City Square Historical Enhancement Project.

$200,000 to the city of Athens for water and sewer improvements.

$200,000 to the city of Pana for water line improvements.

$200,000 to the village of Southern View for municipal building improvements.

$100,000 to Hillsboro Area Hospital for operations.

$100,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield for infrastructure improvements.

$100,000 to Downtown Springfield Inc. for infrastructure improvements.

$100,000 to the Cass County Courthouse for elevator installation.

$65,000 to Network Knowledge public television for literacy programs.

$60,000 to the Christian County Senior Center for energy efficiency renovations.

$50,000 to the Chatham Jaycees for park improvements.

$50,000 to the city of Litchfield for street improvements.

$50,000 to the city of Taylorville for street improvements.

$50,000 to United Cerebral Palsy of Springfield for purchasing therapy equipment.

$50,000 to the Springfield Children's Museum for infrastructure improvements.

$50,000 to the city of Riverton for Field of Dreams Park.

$50,000 to the Enos Park Neighborhood Association for sidewalk renovations.

$50,000 to the village of Grandview for police department building renovations.

$50,000 to the city of Springfield for capital improvements.

$50,000 to the Greene County Courthouse for electric rewiring.

$40,000 to the Springfield Figure Skating Club for youth programs.

$35,000 to the city of Pawnee for sidewalk repair.

$30,000 to the city of Sherman for infrastructure improvements.

$30,000 to the village of Jerome for a memorial.

$25,000 to the Menard County Historical Society for infrastructure improvements.

$25,000 to the city of Rochester for the north park.

$25,000 to the city of Carlinville for police cars.

$25,000 to the city of Hillsboro for street improvements.

$25,000 to the city of Virden for street improvements.

$20,000 to the Petersburg Jaycees for infrastructure improvements.

$15,000 to the city of Divernon for infrastructure improvements.

LINCOLN AREA

$60,000 to the Logan County Courthouse for a new historical library and safety improvements.

$50,000 to Logan County for land acquisition for law enforcement building.

$25,000 to the Logan County Historical Society for infrastructure improvements.

$25,000 to the city of Lincoln for infrastructure improvements.

$$25,000 to the city of Atlanta for sewer plant restorations, and $20,000 for Main Street sewer plant lift station.

PEORIA AREA

$500,000 for the LaSalle County Sheriff's Department to buy vehicles and/or communications equipment.

$500,000 to the LaSalle Veterans Home for equipment for the new 80-bed addition.

$500,000 to Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby for parking lot improvements.

$400,000 to the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria Cancer Center for operations and infrastructure improvements.

$400,000 to the city of Princeton for improvements to the Amtrak station and parking lot.

$250,000 to the Methodist Medical Center Foundation for Peoria Cancer Center programs.

$250,000 for construction of turn lanes and intersection improvements on Alta Road in Peoria County.

$175,000 to the Hopedale Medical Complex for emergency room renovations.

$150,000 to the Putnam County Sheriff's Department to buy vehicles and/or communications equipment.

$150,000 to the Bureau County Sheriff's Department to buy vehicles and/or communications equipment.

$100,000 to the City of East Peoria for technology infrastructure for an emergency operation center.

$100,000 to the city of Canton to buy a new truck for sewer maintenance.

$100,000 to the city of Pekin for sidewalk construction and repair.

$100,000 for flooding correction on Illinois Route 17 in Toulon.

$85,000 to the village of Grand Ridge in LaSalle County for planning and design of a water tower, sewage system and arsenic-removal system.

$70,000 to the city of Peru for the Peru Rescue Station.

$50,000 to the Dream Center Peoria for capital improvements and technology upgrades.

$50,000 to the village of Bartonville for new squad cars.

$50,000 to the city of Farmington for replacing a water main.

$50,000 to the Lewistown Fire Protection District for construction and repair of the fire station.

$50,000 to the City of Tremont for Feeder Road to Culligan Park infrastructure repairs.

$50,000 to the Village of Hopedale for construction of a paved trail for seniors in Hopedale Park.

$50,000 to Rural Peoria County Council on Aging for senior services.

$50,000 to the city of Mendota for development of an industrial park.

$25,000 to the Peoria Friendship House of Christian Services for after school programs and minority outreach.

$25,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Peoria for after school programs.

$20,000 to the City of East Peoria for street construction and paving.

$25,000 to the Peoria Youth Farm for student programs.

$25,000 to Spoon River College for technology and security enhancements.

$20,000 to the Village of Deer Creek for street construction and paving.
