Indians notebook: Joe B vs. Dice-K
Dice-K has got nothing on Joe Borowski.
Boston's Japanese import, Daisuke Matsuzaka, arrived in the big leagues with the reputation for being able to throw a "gyroball." It is a mysterious pitch that, because it lacks the normal backspin, appears to be coming toward the batter much slower than fastball speed. Borowski accidentally threw his own version of that pitch Friday when he struck out Brad Wilkerson with the bases loaded to end Cleveland's 3-2 victory over Texas.
"I threw a slider and it backed up," Borowski said. "I turned my wrist a little too much. I don't know how it happens. If I did, I'd do it all the time. I guess that's my gyroball."
