WEBQ to hold fundraiser for Wyatt Drake
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[WEBQ radio station is hosting a dinner-fundraiser for Wyatt Drake, "The Voice of the Bulldogs," in the Harrisburg High School Cafeteria at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 10 before the basketball game against Herrin. Drake was recently diagnosed with acute leukemia and is currently patient at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. The radio station is hosting the fundraiser to help offset medical expenses and other expenses the family has been incurring.
"His family is traveling back and forth and having to stay at different places," said Sonny Dotson of WEBQ. "There are a lot of general expenses."
Drake was diagnosed with leukemia Oct. 17 of last year. He received three rounds of chemotherapy at Harrisburg Medical Center, before receiving a bone marrow transplant at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He expects to reside in off-campus hospital housing for 30-90 days after being discharged from the hospital, but Drake is hoping to make it back in time for baseball season.
An $8 ticket will buy a bowl of chili, a grilled quarter pound hot dog, Fritos, dessert and a drink.
Tickets for the dinner are available from Farmers State Bank, Ron Seets, Lynn O. Turner, WEBQ, Cathy O., Stacey Kuhlman, Sherry Dotson, Bill Bethel, Desiree Raasch, Tina McCabe, Debbie Oglesby, Chris Street and Sonny Dotson.
Pre-sales are preferred.
