CHS basketball celebrates memorable season at 2019 Awards Night
It was a star-studded night on April 3 when Chester High School celebrated its 2018-19 basketball program, particularly its record-setting varsity squad.

CHS basketball players visit grade school
Seven players from the 2019 Chester High School basketball team accompanied Head Coach Brad Norman to Chester Grade School lst Thursday to greet students, sign autographs and say "thanks" for being loyal supporters throughout the 2018-2019 season. Coach Norman said that having the team do several community involvement activities each season teaches the players to be good citizens, "and to give back to those who support us all year," he said.

9 students honored with March character awards
Nine students at Chester Grade School were honored March 28 with a CGS Character Award for demonstrating the character trait of good "Decision-Making Skills," The winners are Peyton Cole, Nicandro Cortes, Aiden Davis, Alexis Eggemeyer, Dyson Helmers, Peyton Maxwell, Hunter Mifflin, Kendall Nanney and Trenton Westbrook.

Richard Eugene Harris (Gene), age 84, passed away at 8 p.m. April 1, 2019 at the SunCoast Care Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, with family by his side.

Dudenbostel wins 1st Ward seat; will be sworn in May 6
Former Randolph County coroner Randy Dudenbostel has returned to where his political career began, winning election April 2 as a Ward 1 alderman in Chester. Dudenbostel, 58, will be sworn in on May 6. The Ward 1 seat is currently held by Alderman Nancy Crossland, who did not seek re-election.

Despite water receding, flooding persists on Route 3
The flooding that closed Route 3 south of Chester since last week persisted into early this week at Mary's River Bridge. The Randolph County Emergency Services Disaster Agency closed the flood gates on Route 3 at Cora City and at Prairie du Rocher on April 1. On April 2 the Randolph County Board of Commissioners declared the county a disaster zone.

Chester baseball Yellow Jackets start season 5-4
The Chester Yellow Jacket baseball team opened their season with nine games in 10 days. The result is a winning 5-4 record and some tired young men.
