Randolph County clerk explains Real I.D. to Chester Rotary Club
Randolph County Clerk Melanie Johnson came to the Chester Rotary Club on Nov. 20 to discuss the nationwide Real ID program going into effect on Oct. 1, 2020. A Real I.D. will be required to board all domestic air flights, to enter military bases or to enter any federal facility, unless you carry a valid U.S. passport.

Chester shops getting ready for Small Business Saturday
The Chester Chamber of Commerce and River City Renewal will co-sponsoring the city's third annual Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30. Businesses have been encouraged to offer special events on that day, such as extended hours, specials, drawings and promotions. The Chamber of Commerce is promoting these events on the organization's social media and emails.

Buena Vista tour takes travelers to Smoky Mountains
Buena Vista National Bank recently sponsored a Fall trip to the Smoky Mountains. This trip set a record by selling out within a week! The large group enjoyed a day at Dollywood which included the Harvest Festival and Great Pumpkin LumiNights.

Iconic Chester Dairy, home of 'Farm Fresh,' to close at year's end
The dairy, which has marketed fresh milk under the Farm Fresh label since 1932, will cease operating as of Dec. 31, according to people close to the dairy.

Sherlock & Segar: Unveiling of statue, time capsule burial all coming on Dec. 7
Imagine how eager you would be this coming Dec. 7, if you could peer inside a time capsule that had been buried in Chester 75 years ago. On Dec. 7, 1944, World War II war was raging, and every family had or knew of at least one soldier or sailor in harm's way. The Chester basketball team was mired in a forgettable season, and a severe July storm had taken out sections of the Chester Bridge (it wouldn't reopen until 1946). Elzie Segar would have turned 50 on Dec. 7, 1944, had he not died six years before.

Wii bowling league finishes season; Chester Senior Center team wins the 2019 title
The 2019 Wii Bowling League has come to a close and the results are in for the final league standings. Nine teams competed this year and much fun and fellowship was had by all. "We really don't do this to compete," said Donna Wolters, director of the Chester Senior Center. "We stress having fun and getting some exercise and good social time. We do keep records and give out awards in several categories at our end-of-the-year banquet, but the primary goal is to have fun as we play."
