WRESTLING: Benton, Murphysboro defeat Panthers

Pinckneyville hosted a wrestling tri-match on Tuesday night with Benton and Murphsyboro at the auxiliary gymnasium at PCHS, but the Panthers couldn't come away with a team win against either visitor, falling 41-30 to the Rangers and 57-24 to the Red Devils.

Five Panthers picked up individual victories against Benton, two of them via pinfall - Richard Jones defeated Jordan Garbe in 2:48 at the 182-lb. level and Quinin Baker pinned Alex Longfellow in 1:30 to win the 195-lb. class. Faleshia Quillman (138 lb.), Keaton Hawk (145 lb.) and Ryan Rury (220 lb.) each won by forfeit.

In the nightcap against Murphysboro, Baker picked up his second win of the meet, this time getting the victory after Dehen Mulroney's nosebleed could not be stopped in time to continue the match. Grant Murphy (152 lb.) picked up PCHS's only pinfall win against the Devils, defeating Marcus Gilmore in 1:58. Gabe Strohlein (170 lb.) and Tyler Eggemeyer (145 lb.) record wins via forfeit.

Pinckneyville will participate in the EAWR Super Duals this Saturday. Their next home match is scheduled for February 4 against Mater Dei and Sparta.
