Township elections feature full slate of candidates

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">SALINE COUNTY &#8211; Local consolidated elections may lack the fanfare of a presidential or gubernatorial election, but they are equally important, Saline County Clerk Kim Buchanan says.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">"These elections affect more people on a personal level in Saline County than a presidential election might," Buchanan said. "These are people who will make decisions about local issues like township roads."

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">April 4 the polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.and absentee ballots are available up through 5 p.m. Monday in the elections office in the basement of the Saline County Courthouse. For those wishing to have an absentee ballot mailed, today is the last day the county clerk may mail it.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">East Eldorado Township

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">East Eldorado Township has contested races for township supervisor, township clerk, road commissioner and township trustees.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Larry D. Phelps, Democrat, is running against Brandi N. Pemberton, Republican for township supervisor. Township clerk candidates are Johnny Bob James (D) and Jamie J. Boulds (R). The road commissioner race has Greg McKinney (D) vs. Kevin P. Boulds (R). Township trustee candidates (there are four trustees up for election) are Billy Bradley (D), Josh Griffin(D), Bill Kittinger (D), Steven D. Nelson (D), Carolyn Boulds (R), Hal M. Butler (R), Wade H. Pemberton (R) and Sue E. Yates (R).

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Harrisburg Township

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Harrisburg Township has contested races for township supervisor, road commissioner and four township trustees.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Jimi Williams-Cox (R) is running against Danny Clayton (D) for township supervisor. Robert (Bob) Holmes is running against Danny Gibbs (D) for road commissioner.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Roger Craig (R), Steve Horn (R), Gailene Harrelson (R), Beth Simpson Montfort (R), Tim Mitchell (D), Lovie Stunson (D), Roger Angelly (D) and Brad Boender (D) all are trustee candidates.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Carrier Mills

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">There are two candidates for village president. They are Audie Murphy and Louis Shaw. Village clerk candidates are Cindy Murphy and Carleen M. Sanderson.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">There are three trustee positions for a full four-year term. Those candidates are Derek Field, Travis Parks, Geoffrey Absher, Jennie Oneal and Victor Jay Willsey. There is one unexpires two-year term, and candidates for that spot are Shannon Rone and Greg Prince.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Galatia

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Galatia has two candidates for mayor. David Harrawood and Chris Ferrell are those candidates. Three village trustees will be elected from these candidates: David Grant, Keith Mortag, Rickey Cates, Benny L. Hankins and James Stalcup.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Muddy

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Muddy has three village trustee spots up for election. Candidates are Max Molinarolo, Frances Bertino, Jennifer Smith and Dean Abraham.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Raleigh

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Raleigh has Paul Bishop running for mayor. There is a spot for a write-in candidate. Three village trustees will be elected from four candidates. They are Athel Wiseman, Ron Maloney, Rex Harbison and Jean Ellis. A write-in candidate spot is available for an unexpired two-year term. In addition, there is a public question for voters. It is whether the position of village clerk should be changed from an appointed position to an elected position.

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Galatia Township

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">There are two candidates for road commissioner. They are David Moore (R) and Ricky D. Pritchett (D).

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Raleigh Township

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Voters will elect four trustees from six candidates. They are Willard Prather (R), Ron Ellis (R), Richard Myers (R), Ryan Harbison (R), Jack Whitlock (D) and Sarah Davis (D).

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Rector Township

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Township supervisor candidates are Clarence F. Jones (D) and Brenda Cook (R). Four trustees will be elected from six candidates. They are Robert Crouse (D), Tammie Porter (D), Vicki Crouse (D), Donna Suits (R), Mike Suits (R), and Penny Talkington (R).

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Galatia Unit 1 School Board

<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">While there are four elected school board positions available, there are only two named candidates. They are Robert J. Pigg (B.J.) and Elaine Jackson. There are, however, two write-in candidate spots available.
