SOFTBALL: #204 softball team advances with 19-9 win

Pinckneyville District #204's offense exploded for nineteen runs on eighteen hits in Tuesday's Regional matchup with Galatia as every player in the Lady Tigers' lineup scored at least one run in the 19-9, five-inning rout.

Neither team had a hit in the first inning, but the offense would pick up shortly thereafter.

Four walks and hit batter put Galatia up 2-0 in the top of the second, but Pinckneyville responded with a snowman in the bottom half, plating eight runs on seven hits and a pair of walks. Lauren Jackson (double), Hannah Dascotte (double), Olivia Buza (single) and Miranda Skorch (double) all started the inning with hits. Skorch, Dascotte, Jackson and Lexi Hirsch each had an RBI in the first of two big innings for the Tigers.

Galatia got three back in the third to trim the lead to 8-5, and it was 11-9 in favor of the Lady Tigers when they came to bat in the bottom of the fifth.

That's when Pinckneyville put the game away with another eight-spot. Aubrey Bruns singled to start the inning, and the rally wouldn't stop until Hirsch's walk-off single brought in Skorch for the nineteenth run.

Jackson (3-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B), Dascotte (2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 2B), Buza (2-4, 2 R), Skorch (2-3, 3 R, RBI, 2B, 3B, BB), Bruns (2-4, R, RBI), Hirsch (3-3, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 2B, BB), Anna Pestka (2-4, 2 R) and Kiya Hagene (2-3, 3 R, BB) all had hits for Pinckneyville, and Megan Engelhardt (0-2, 2 R, 2 BB) scored a pair of runs from the two hole.

Dascotte worked the first four-plus innings in the circle for #204, Engelhardt finished up in the fifth.

The Lady Tigers advanced to the next round of Regional play on Friday at 4:00 p.m. in Vergennes.
