NFL action begins Thursday

Look ahead

- Thanks to the recent end of the NFL lockout, the season will kick off on time. The first game is Thursday at 8:30 p.m. EDT on NBC: New Orleans vs. Green Bay.

- Republicans will hold a debate Wednesday night at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Those planning to attend the NBC News-Politico debate include Rick Perry, Mitt Romney?, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Jon Huntsman, Herman Cain, Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul. Because of the debate, in part, President Barack Obama's speech on the economy will take place Thursday.

- Summer isn't officially over yet, and we have at least one more expected blockbuster summer movie: "Contagion," a thriller directed by Steven Soderbergh that stars a host of big-name actors, including Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Laurence Fishburne.
