Illinois Senate again tries to take control of appointments

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Illinois Senate is trying again to make sure it gets to review the governor's picks for important state jobs.

The Senate is supposed to vote on whether to accept appointees to run state agencies and serve on boards and commissions. But governors sometimes avoid that review process.

They give someone a temporary appointment that goes on indefinitely or leave people in jobs long after their term has ended.

The Senate passed legislation 48-0 Thursday that would ban those practices. The measure says temporary appointees and people serving after their term ends must be reviewed by the Senate or lose their job.

Similar legislation passed the Senate late in the last legislative session but wasn't considered by the House.
