Comptroller candidate Krishnamoorthi's petitions challenged

An objection has been filed with the State Board of Elections, challenging whether Peoria native Raja Krishnamoorthi submitted valid petitions of candidacy in his campaign for Illinois comptroller.

If the objection eventually is upheld, his name would be thrown off the ballot for the February primary. Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat, is to face state Rep. David Miller of Lynwood and Clinton Kristov of Wilmette in the party primary for comptroller. Kristov's petitions also have been challenged.

Krishnamoorthi said he'll put up a fight.

"The challenge to my petitions is nothing less than harassment and intimidation," Krishnamoorthi said in a news release.

He accused Miller's campaign of being involved.

Krishnamoorthi said the name of the challenger to his petitions, Emily Svitak, also shows up on the Facebook social-networking site as a supporter of Miller's.

Spokesmen for Krishnamoorthi and Miller couldn't be immediately reached.

More than 100 objections have been filed against various candidates. The State Board of Elections will decide later on the merits of each objection and whether certain candidates should be thrown off the ballot.
