Authorities say two people killed in a fiery, chain-reaction wreck on Interstate 70 in southwestern Illinois were from Indiana.

Illinois State Police say 52-year-old Jerald Jaynes of Seymour, Ind., and a rider in the tractor-trailer he was driving, 23-year-old William Burleson of Greensburg, Ind., died at the scene of Monday’s accident.

Two other drivers suffered minor injuries in the wreck on westbound I-70 near Highland.

Police say traffic was backed up on the freeway because of another accident 2 miles ahead when Jaynes’ tractor-trailer hit a stopped semi rig, causing a chain-reaction involving two more vehicles.

Jaynes’ rig then caught fire, trapping Jaynes and Burleson.

Westbound lanes were closed for hours before being reopened.
