Harrisburg grapplers split with Herrin

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Harrisburg High School wrestling team picked up a split decision Tuesday as its varsity team fell 54-30, while its junior varsity team earned a 60-6 win against Herrin.

Phillip York picked up a victory against David Gamble in the 112 weight class, while Stephen Castros defeated Brandon Vaughn to give the team another pinfall victory, but Herrin owned the rest of the match.

Coach Greg Langley said Herrin proved itself to be the battle-tested opponent he expected to see before the two team's squared off.

"Herrin is one of the best teams in the south, so we knew it would be tough from the get-go," Langley said. "It's tough to get back into it after a holiday break. We could have wrestled better, but it was alread a tough hill to climb."

The Bulldogs picked up a eight forfeit victories on the varsity level before Kaleb Martineau and Tim Jeffries picked up pinfall victorieees at the 215 and heavyweight classes.
