Pirates blank Dongola in season opener

Pope County moved to 1-0 on the season after disposing of Dongola 20-0 Thursday afternoon.

Kendall Faughn had a 3-run home run, while Tyler Thompson and Kyle Wise each finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Cole Jackson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Austin Ferrell was 1-for-1 with a double and three RBIs in the win.

Pope County used Cole Jackson, Dalton Ohse and Thompson on the mound, while Jackson (1-0) picked up the win.

Dongola issued 12 walks in the loss to the Pirates. Pope County's next game will be Sept. 8 against Hardin County.
