Prep Baseball: Benton blanks Eagles in non-conference matchup

Mason Tieffel struck out seven and gave up just one hit as Benton bombed Eldorado 12-0 Friday afternoon.

The Eagles (1-4) lone hit belonged to Parker Price as the junior singled on a ground ball to right field in the first inning.

Benton (4-4) finished their day with seven hits, while Jacob Kinsman and Asher Wyant both had home runs.

Kinsman's blast to straight center in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring L. Wilson and Tieffel short gamed the Eagles.

Wyant's diner to left field that scored Kinsman in the first inning was part of a five-run first for the Rangers, who grabbed a 8-0 lead after three innings.

Tyler Chamness went 2-for-4 at the dish with an RBI and two runs scored, while Chase Thomas, Lukas Wilson, Kinsman, Wyant and Tieffel all had one hit.

Kinsman and Wyant both had three RBI, while Kinsman scored three runs and Wyant scored one.

Reid Baumgarte, Landon Crolsin, Seth Tate Jr., Thomas, Wilson and Tieffel all scored one run.

Anderson Woolcott took the loss for Eldorado, working 0.1 innings and allowing five runs (three earned) on two hits with two walks.

Trevor Milligan came on in relief, working 3.2 innings and allowing three runs (one earned) on hit with three walks and two strikeouts. Owen Clark followed Milligan, working 0.2 inning, giving up four runs on four hits.

Earlier in the week, Benton rallied to beat Mt. Vernon 3-2 in eight innings.

The Rangers got a 3-for-3 performance from Chase Thomas as the senior scored one run.

Jacob Kinsman, Isaac Billington and Asher Wyant all had one hit, while Kinsman drove in two runs.

Tyler Chamness and Tieffel each scored one run.

Kinsman picked up his first win of the season on the bump against the Rams as he worked seven innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, while striking out five and walking one.

Junior Landon Croslin grabbed his first save of the season, working one inning, striking out one.
