SIRR Ohio, Mississippi All-Conference Teams Announced

Pinckneyville, Nashville and Murphysboro all put three players on the Southern Illinois River-To-River All Conference Teams as announced by the league recently.

On the Ohio Team, the Red Devils put on JaQuan Jackson, Jamar McZeke and Calvon Clemons.

Clemons was voted to the Associated Press Class 2A Honorable Mention Team as the sophomore led the Red Devils in scoring at 15 points per game and hit the game-wining, buzzer beating layup in the regional title game upset of Top 10 ranked Pinckneyville.

Jackson recently was named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Third Team and the junior averaged 13 points and owns more than 100 career 3-pointers.

Massac County, Herrin and Benton all put two players on the team.

The Patriots were represented by Zach Travis and Julian Russell, while Herrin had Brandon Anthony and Luke LeQuatte and Benton put Reece Johnson and Carson Lewis on the list.

Johnson, who was named to the AP All-State Honorable Mention Team, powered a 27-8 surprise to a regional title upset over Top 10 ranked Fairfield and a share of the conference title with Murphysboro. Johnson averaged 12.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the Rangers, while surpassed the 1,000 point career milestone this season. Lewis averaged 10.5 points per game and 5 rebounds per game for the Rangers.

Travis averaged 12 points per game for the Patriots, while averaging 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Russell averaged 12.8 points per game, 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Harrisburg's lone representative was senior guard Will Gibbs. The senior guard averaged 15 points per game and was a three-year starter for the Bulldogs.

On the Mississippi side, Pinckneyville's trio of Dawson Yates, Dre Scott and Devin Kitchen, was joined by Nashville's Carson Parker, Terry Pelczynski and Tristan Hercules.

Yates was named to the Second Team of the AP All-State Team and First Team IBCA in Class 2A.

The senior was the leader of a 28-4 squad upset in the regional finals after being ranked 4th in the final AP state poll.

Yates averaged 16 points, 4.6 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 1.9 steals with 50 3-pointers for a 3-peat conference champ. He shot 53 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 81 percent from the free-throw line. In his career, Yates has 1,576 points (2nd in school history); part of 3 straight regional champs, 10 tournament winners and the 2018 fourth-place state finisher in Class 2A.

Anna-Jonesboro was represented by Blake Pena, Carterville put Eli Downen on the list, while Du Quoin added Braeden Pursell and Sparta put Carlos Keen on the list.
