Two Dogs picked to play in All-Star Game

Brooke Meylor and Karsyn Davis are just the latest in what has been a growing list of Harrisburg High School girls' basketball players to not only represent the Bulldogs, but southern Illinois in the annual Class 1A-2A All-Star Game at Pontiac High School in June.

One would have to rewind all the way back to Ashley Ferrell, who was the first Harrisburg player to participate in the All-Star game, since then, Bulldogs like Lotte Miller, Jessica Hopson and Matty Hawkins have suited up for the South All-Star Team.

Now, Davis and Meylor can add their names to the list.

Davis, who signed to play college softball at Southeast Missouri State University this coming fall, was a Class 2A Associated Press All-State Honorable Mention player for Jake Stewart at the Bulldogs this past year.

Davis was named to All-Tournament Teams at Harrisburg, Benton and Eldorado. Davis was the Bulldogs' leading scorer, averaging 14 points per game and 10 rebounds per game and went over the 1,000th point mark.

Davis was also named to the Second Team of the Class 2A Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-State Team and was named All-Conference in the Southern Illinois River-To-River Ohio Division.

Meylor, who will stay a little closer to home and play basketball at Southeastern Illinois College for two seasons, was also named to the All-State Honorable Mention Team, averaged 13 points per game, to go along with, six rebounds per game and was named to All-Tournament Teams at Harrisburg and Benton.

Davis and Meylor are part of the South All-Star Team and will be joined by fellow southern Illinois players Kaleigh Dodson (Hamilton County), Libby Ahlers (Nashville) and Malia Schmittler (Edwards County). Other players for the South Team include: Abigail Reinneck (Lebanon), Emily Reinneck (Lebanon), Esther Miller (Sullivan), Hannah Krumwiede (Carrollton), Harley Barry (Shiloh), Kristen Price-Wilson (Shiloh), Megan Teal (Midwest Central), Sammi Matoush (Hillsboro), Skylar Hayes (Mt. Pulaski). The head coach for the South All-Star Team will be Eureka's Jerry Prina. Dakota's Kevin Cline will coach the 1A-2A North All-Star Team.
