Bulldogs still perfect on spring season

Harrisburg stayed perfect on the season and picked up its first Southern Illinois River-To-River Ohio win, beating West Frankfort 9-2 Monday afternoon.

The Bulldogs are now 12-0 overall and 1-0 in SIRR Ohio play.

Harrisburg and West Frankfort kept things scoreless through three innings, but in the top of the fourth, Harrisburg jumped out with three runs, thanks to a two RBI single from Mya King that scored Essence Sanders and Mckenzie Sullivan. Riley Harrison, who was pinch running for starting pitcher Kerrigan Payne later scored on a sac-fly from Hannah Reid.

Harrisburg tacked on a run in the fifth inning when Madeline Rider scored on Sanders' double.

The Bulldogs tacked on five runs in the seventh inning when with one out Mackenzie Marshall tripled to right center and scored on a base hit by Rider. Sullivan bunted and reached on an error and then stole second. Sanders scored Rider and Sullivan on a base hit and Sanders then scored from first on a double by Karsyn Davis. Ashlyn Hammond, who was pinch running for Davis, scored on Payne's single.

Payne improved to 10-0 in the circle as the freshman south paw went the distance and allowed two runs (one earned) while tossing a three hitter, striking out six.

At the plate, Rider was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Sanders and Payne were both 2-for-3 as Sanders drove in three runs and Payne finished with an RBI. King was 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Davis and Lexi Williams were also 1-for-4. Mackenzie Marshall was 1-for-3 and Reid drove in one run.
