Harrisburg wins two over weekend

Runs were at a premium in Harrisburg's double header against Du Quoin.

Luckily for the Bulldogs, they had a little more gas in the tank.

Harrisburg (4-3) improved to one game over .500 with a Saturday sweep, beating the Indians 2-1 in Game 1 and capping off the day with a 4-3 win.

In the first game, two first inning runs held up for Harrisburg in the win as Isaac Crabb took the win on the mound, going the distance and striking out five, while allowing one run on four hits.

At the dish, Harrisburg got six hits off Du Quoin starter Alex Zimmerman, as both Will Gibbs and Will Holland had two hit days. Jack Martin and Javie Beal each had one hit.

Gibbs led off the bottom of the first inning with a single past short and advanced to second on Holland's line drive to center field. Martin then singled to right field to scored Gibbs and moved Holland to third and Holland scored on Beal's ground out to third base.

In the Game 2 win, Harrisburg outhit Du Quoin 9-5, while Martin paced the Bulldogs with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.

Andrew Bittle was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Ben Brombaugh, Gibbs, Crabb and Beal all had one hit.

Jacob Penrod and Jake Henfer, along with Gibbs all scored one run, while Gibbs, Crabb and Beal had an RBI.

On the mound, Banks went four innings, striking out three, while allowing two runs on five hits. Connor Phalin came on in relief and allowed one run, while striking out three and walking two.

<b>Vienna 6, Eldorado 4</b>

Vienna rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth to come back and beat Eldorado 6-4 Saturday in Black Diamond Conference action.

Eldorado outhit Vienna 8-5 on the day as Joe Mayberry and Braden Unthank both had two hit days. Mayberry was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Unthank was 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Hunter Sizemore, Bryant and Ben Byrd, along with Ezra Burtis all had one hit. Bryant and Ben each drove in a run, while Sizemore and Burtis both scored a run.

On the mound, Sizemore got the start and went four innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, while striking out six and walking two.

Ben Byrd came on in relief and took the loss. Byrd struck out one and walked two, while giving up three runs.

<b>FRIDAY</b>

<b>Pleasant Plains 4, Harrisburg 2</b>

Pleasant Plains put up four runs in the fifth inning, good enough to beat Harrisburg 4-2 Friday at Jay Thompson Field.

Both of Harrisburg's runs came in the third and fourth inning as they outhit Pleasant Plains 6-5

Connor Phalin was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Will Gibbs, Will Holland, Issac Crabb and Jacob Penrod all had one hit.

Crabb drove in a run with a sac-fly in the bottom of the third to score Gibbs. Phalin scored on a Colby Morse ground ball in bottom of the fourth.

Noah Boon got the start, going six innings and allowing four runs (none earned) on five hits, while striking out nine. Andrew Bittle came on in relief and struck out two, while walking two, working one inning.

<b>Massac County 16, Gallatin 10</b>

Jon Cox took the tough luck loss as the freshman gave up five runs (three earned) over an 1 2/3 inning. Cox struck out two.

Dustin Drone threw 4 2/3 inning, giving up nine runs (four earned) and struck out five and walked four.

At the plate, Audie Goebel was 2-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI. Wyatt Downen was 2-for-3 with a run scored and drove in two runs, while Garrett Rushing was 3-for-5, driving in two and scored two runs. Robbie Prince was 1-for-4 with a run scored and Brock Seely was 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Blake Seely was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Drake Scherrer was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Will Henson 2-for-4 with a run scored. Grant Bosaw also scored a run.

<b>THURSDAY</b>

<b>Gallatin County 15, Galatia 3</b>

Gallatin County used three pitchers and outhit Galatia 10-7 in a 15-3 Greater Egyptian Conference victory Thursday at Galatia High School.

Audie Goebel went three innings, striking out seven and walking two. The senior right hander allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits. Robbie Prince came on in relief and struck out four over three inning, while Brock Seely worked one inning and gave up one run (unearned) on three hits, while striking out one.

Drake Scherrer paced the Hawks at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Wyatt Downen and Garrett Rushing both had a a pair of hits as Rushing scored two runs. Downen scored one run and both had an RBI.

Grant Bosaw, Brock Seely and Will Henson each had one hit with Bosaw driving in one run. Seely scored three runs, while Henson scored three runs and drove in two.

Audie Goebel, Braden Capeheart, Jeremy Brugger and Jaxon Knott all scored one run for Gallatin County.

Galatia, who committed six errors on the day, had a 2-for-3 day from Braxton Lane, while Trevor Hale was also 2-for-3.

On the mound, Cayleb Reed got the start and went three innings, giving up one earned run on four hits. Klayton Wright came in and pitched the fourth and fifth inning, giving up one earned run on three hits, while Nick Triplett started the sixth and gave up one earned run on one hit. Grayson Woodward finished the sixth inning, giving up no earned runs on one hit.

<b>Carrier Mills 13, Hardin County 4</b>

Caden Van Meter picked up the win for Carrier Mills-Stonefort as he went five innings, allowing five hits and two runs, while striking out five and walking two.

Gabe Fowler took the loss for Hardin County.

At the plate, CMSF was led by Jeremy Choat, who went 2-for-2, including a two-run home run and finished with three RBI. Rostin Lewis was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Van Meter went 3-for-4. Ethan Fitzgerald had two RBI on the day as well for the Wildcats.

<b>Benton 12, Eldorado 6</b>

After Eldorado rallied and put up two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at six all, Benton responded with a six-run eighth inning to pick up a 12-6 victory at the EHS Sports Complex Thursday.

The Eagles, who had 10 hits on the day, were led by Nolan Milligan's 3-for-4 day at the plate. Milligan also drove in a team-high three runs.

Bryant Byrd and Braden Unthank each had two hits, while Byrd scored two runs and drove in one. Unthank finished with an RBI.

Joe Mayberry, Hunter Sizemore and Ezra Burtis each had a hit with Sizemore scoring two runs, while Mayberry and Burtis both scored one run.

On the mound, Mayberry went 4 2/3 inning, giving up six runs (one earned) on five hits, while striking out three and walking four. Dalton White came on in relief and picked up the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits, while striking out four and walking three.
