Harrisburg rebounds from first loss to win at Marion

Coming off its first loss of the season, the Harrisburg High School girls basketball team used a big third quarter to beat Marion, 44-33, in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Cuss Wilson Gymnasium.

Harrisburg, which was recently the top-ranked team in Class 2A by the Associated Press, improved to 12-1. The Lady Bulldogs first loss came against Piasa Southwestern.

Marion is now 4-10.

It was a four-point game at halftime with Harrisburg holding a slim 22-18 lead before the decisive third period.

Brooke Meylor scored six of her eight points in the third frame and Karsyn Davis drilled a 3-pointer and had five total points as the Lady Bulldogs went on a 13-6 run.

Alli Ferrell hit four 3-pointers and led Harrisburg with 12 points. Davis also tallied a dozen, followed by Meylor and then Madeline Rider with six. Summer Sanders finished with four points, while Lauryn Gribble tacked on two points.

In the junior varsity game, Marion escaped with a 44-37 victory.

Mya King had 11 points for Harrisburg, while Gabby Adams, Chelsea Davidson and Gribble all scored seven points. Kailyn Moss tacked on three points, while Lexi Williams tossed in two points.

McKenzie Orange and Maegen Dillon both had eight points to share team-high honors for Marion. Margaux Bruce and Jackie Drury both had six. Lauryn Kadela chipped in three and Jordan Turner had two.

Galatia-Thompsonville 43, Hardin County 27

The Galatia-Thompsonville girls' basketball team improved to 3-9 on the season with a 43-27 Greater Egyptian Conference win over Hardin County Tuesday night.

Bailey Crisp led the Bearcats with a double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jaedyn Beers also had a double-double finishing with 15 points and 10 steals.

Maddie McFarland scored six points and had four steals. Chloe Mayes finished with two points, three rebounds and three steals. Destiny Taylor had a rebound for G-T in the win.
