Harrisburg girls pull away from Marion

MARION - Coming off its first loss of the season, the Harrisburg High School girls basketball team used a big third quarter to beat Marion, 44-33, in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Cuss Wilson Gymnasium.

Harrisburg, which was recently the top-ranked team in Class 2A by the Associated Press, improved to 12-1. The Lady Bulldogs first loss came against Piasa Southwestern.

Marion is now 4-10.

It was a four-point game at halftime with Harrisburg holding a slim 22-18 lead before the decisive third period.

Brooke Meylor scored six of her eight points in the third frame and Karsyn Davis drilled a 3-pointer and had five total points as the Lady Bulldogs went on a 13-6 run.

Alli Ferrell hit four 3-pointers and led Harrisburg with 12 points. Davis also tallied a dozen, followed by Meylor and then Madeline Rider with six.

McKenzie Orange and Maegen Dillon both had eight points to share team-high honors for Marion. Margaux Bruce and Jackie Drury both had six. Lauryn Kadela chipped in three and Jordan Turner had two.

Marion is now off until the Benton Christmas Classic, which also includes Harrisburg in the field. Marion plays Christopher and Carterville on the first day, Dec. 27; Harrisburg faces Hamilton County and Union County (Ky.) on that same Thursday.
