The Chester High School Boys golf team finished second at the 2018 Chester Invitational Tournament Aug. 30, with Jarrett James and Jayden Mott finishing in the Top-5 trophy group.
The finish capped a busy week fro the golfers, who won the Red Bud triangular Aug. 27 and finished 2nd at their own triangular match Aug. 28.
At the Chester Invitational Tournament at the Chester Country Club, the Jackets finished three strokes behind the champion Red Bud, that won with a score of 344 strokes.
The Tournament Low Medalist was Alex Kueker of Red Bud who shot 76 for the 18-hole Match. The Top-5 finishers were awarded special plaques.
Kueker won the top golfer award. Jarrett James of Chester and Eddie Brees from Trico finished tied for second with scores of 78 strokes each. In fourth was Jesse Suhre of Red Bud with his score of 84 strokes. Chester's Jaden Mott and Sparta's Miles Parks each shot 85 to tie for 5th Place. Each golfer received a plaque for his outstanding efforts.
Red Bud was the overall tournament champion led by Alex Kueker (76). Other Musketeer golfers included Jesse Suhre (84), Caleb Langrehr (86), Austin Grohmann (98), Kendall Doiron (111), and Dylan Roscoe (128).
Chester was the 2018 runner-up with 347 strokes as a team. Jarrett James was the Jacket's top golfer with 78. Other Chester golfers included Jaden Mott (85), Jacob Wingerter (88), Chett Andrews (96), Jakob Cushman (99), and Kaden Freytag (101).
Trico finished in third with a team score of 359 strokes. The Pioneers were led by Eddie Brees who shot 78. Other Pioneer golfers included Peyton Lovel (93), Zach Thies (93), Tyler Compton (95), and Ross Coleman (DQ).
Sparta finished fourth with a team score of 380. The Bulldogs were led by Miles parks who had a score of 85 for the 18-hole event. Other Sparta golfers included Jared Stefani (95), Eli Bernardoni (95), Levi Kurtz (105), and Drake Schulein (113).
New Athens was fifth with a score of 383 team strokes. The YellowJackets were led by Levi Daab who shot 90. Other New Athens golfers included Owen Whitworth (92), troy Hart (98), Noah Linker (103), Mason Page (112), and Grant Harris (121).
Steeleville completed the 6-team field with 388 strokes. The Warriors were led by Eric Stegmann who recorded 93 strokes. Other Steeleville golfers included Hunter Smith (95), Jackson Hamilton (98), Jared Phillips (1`02), J.T. Hoover (103), and Justin Park (103).
Red Bud Triangular
At the Red Bud triangular match, rescheduled due to rain Aug. 15, Chester's James was the match Low Medalist with his score of 38 strokes for the nine-hole event. Teammate Jacob Wingerter finished second for CHS with his score of 44. Mott was just two strokes behind Wingerter in third for the Jackets with a score of 46 strokes. Rounding out the team score was Jakob Cushman who shot 52. Chester won the match with a team score of 180. Het Andrews finished just one point behind Cushman with a score of 53.
Red Bud placed second in the match with a total of 197 strokes. Kueker led the Musketeers with a score of 40 followed by Suhre (49), Langrehr (51) and K. Doiron (57). Just one stroke behind Doiron was Grohman who shot a 58 for the nine holes.
New Athens finished third, 20-strokes behind Red Bud. New Athens was led by Daub who shot 51. One stroke behind Daub was Whitworth who shot 52. Hart had a 56 and Page rounded out the team score with 58 strokes. The team score was 217. Langrehr shot 60 for the New Athens YellowJackets.
Chester hosted a triangular match at the Chester Country Club Aug. 28 with New Athens and Anna-Jonesboro joining the competition. On a hot 91 degree day the YellowJackets played well beating New Athens but allowing A.J. to slip by with the win by just five strokes.
Chester's James was the match's Low Medalist or best player, shooting the nine holes in 39 strokes. The Jacket's Kayden Freytag was Chester's next best with 45 strokes.
Two YellowJackets rounded out the official scoring with identical scores. Jacob Wingerter and Jaden Mott both shot 46 for the nine holes giving Chester a team score of 176. Teammates Chet Andrews shot 52 and Luke Miller shot 58 for the day.
Anna-Jonesboro slipped by with the win with 171 points, led by Reynolds who was just one stroke behind Chester's Jarrett James with a score of 40. Hoosen chased Reynolds with a 41 and Lesley chased Hoosen with a score of 42.
The Wildcat's team score was completed by Bailey and Mason who each shot 48 for the nine holes. Hodenfield recorded a score of 54 strokes. Anna-Jonesboro escaped with the win with 171 strokes.
Finally, New Athens finished third with a team score of 203 strokes. Whitworth was the triangular match's fifth overall player with a score of 43 strokes. Daub shot 50 while both Langrehr and Page each shot 55 for a team score of 203. Also for New Athens, Harris had a score of 65 and Milburn recorded 73 strokes.
The Jackets will travel to Nashville Sept. 6 for their next match.
