Lady Panthers take third at Marissa tournament

MARISSA - The Pinckneyville High School volleyball team finished third at the Marissa Tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Panthers netted pool play wins over Chester (21-17, 17-21, 15-11), Marissa (21-9, 21-17) and Trenton Wesclin (22-20, 21-18). In the championship division, Pinckneyville lost to East St. Louis (21-17, 19-21, 15-21) but came back to beat Wesclin again for third place (21-15, 21-14).

Hallie Waggoner led the Lady Panthers with 27 kills, while Lexie Hirsch had 15 and Taylor Witges put down 12. Elaine Shaneyfelt had 67 assists.

Macy Epplin had 26 digs, Grace Numi had 23 and Lynlee Lindner had 21.

Waggoner and Shaneyfeld were named to the all-tournament team.

Pinckneyville is now 7-3 this season.
