Lady Panthers get 5-1 win over Johnston City

JOHNSTON CITY - Mariah Clark pitched a one-hitter as the Pinckneyville High School softball team downed Johnston City, 5-1, in non-conference play Wednesday.

Pinckneyville's record improved to 18-3 with the win.

"Mariah gave up the only hit against her to lead off the game and proceeded to walk the next three hitters to force in a run," said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. "But she regrouped afterward to shut Johnston City out the rest of the way."

The Lady Panthers tied it with a run in the second and added two in the third and sixth frames.

Emma Banach went 2-for-3 with a home run, while Lauren Jackson plated two runs for the Lady Panthers. Clark helped herself with two hits and an RBI, while Taylor Witges also drove in a run.

"We didn't play all that well today," Engelhardt said. "I didn't think we made the types of adjustments at bat that we have made most of the year, leading to a frustrating day where we had plenty of base runners, but not enough runs."
