Bulldogs' bid for state tourney fall short at 1A Sectional

At the IHSA Class 1A Sectional at Vandalia over the weekend, four Harrisburg wrestlers were vying for a spot for the state tournament and each one came up just a little short in their bid for a trip to the State Farm Center in Champaign this weekend.

120 pounds

Landon Hicks (28-9) scored a first round 10-2 major decision win over Vandalia's Matthew Hobler, but then lost to Monticelo's Ethan O'linc with pinfall.

138 pounds

Kody Cavendar (31-5) got a first round bye, but then loss to Belleville Althoff's Max Kristoff with a pinfall. Kristoff would go on to the win the 138-pound weight class.

Cavender would then go onto the consolation bracket where the junior would beat Monticelo's Douglas Nisly-Nagel with a pinfall, before bowing out to Litchfield's Collin Davidson to a 10-6 decision.

145 pounds

Chandler Bowling (28-12) recorded a quick pinfall over Robinson's Alex Hermann in the first round, but fell to Unity's Pate Eastin. Bowling dropped to the consolation bracket, where he beat Ogden's Trey Wagern with a pinfall and then knocked off Carterville's Kaleb Ward, before falling to Cumberland's Michael Carpenter to a 13-8 decision.

152 pounds

Jimmy Hicks (28-13) beat Mt. Carmel's Chris Shelby in a 9-6 decision and then lost to Carlinville's Tucker Hughes to a pinfall. Hicks dropped to the consolation bracket, losing to Roxana's Logan Carpenter to a 15-10 decision.
