Bulldogs come away with split in matches with Marion, Goreville

The Harrisburg wrestling team split a pair of matches with Goreville and Marion late last week. The Bulldogs picked up nine forfeit wins en route to a 72-12 win over Goreville, while the Bulldogs were edged by Marion 48-34.

In the win over Goreville, Brandon Whiting (126 pounds), Dwhite Cathey (132 pounds) and Hunter Jackson (195 pounds) picked up match victories.

Whiting earned a second period pinfall at the 2:20 mark to beat Logan Lapatas. Cathey got a pinfall with 58 seconds in the first period to beat Dustin Hutman and Jackson beat Dakota Poole with a pinfall at the 2:40 mark of the second period.

Kody Cavender (138 pounds), Abraham McClelland (145 pounds), Chandler Bowling (152), Jimmy Hicks (160 pounds), Clay Brigham (170 pounds), Ty Hutchison (182 pounds), Alex Johnson (220 pounds) and Dylan Vandenboom (285 pounds) all picked up forfeit wins.

In the match against Marion, Landon Hicks (120 pounds) beat Aaron Maze with a third period pinfall at 4:08, while Whiting knocked off Lydell Hoskins with a second period pinfall at 3:20.

Cavender earned a second period pinfall over Allen Abernathy with 1:47 to go and Bowling picked up a forfeit victory in the 152 pound match.

Hicks beat Noah James, while Johnson pinned Tyler Teal with 1:37 in the first period.

Harrisburg returns to action Tuesday at Benton and will wrestle at Carmi Wednesday. The Bulldogs will travel to Litchfield for a tournament Saturday.
