Alumni Corner: Buss creeping closer to setting IU all-time scoring record

Tyler Smithpeters - SIU (Harrisburg HS)

Smithpeters scored two points in SIU's 70-67 loss to Drake at the SIU Arena Sunday afternoon. The Harrisburg standout played 27 minutes in the start and all points came from the free throw line as Smithpeters was 0-of-8 from the field. He grabbed seven rebounds (defensive) and handed out three assists.

Smithpeters scored seven points and played 24 minutes in the start for the Salukis in their 56-53 road win at Northern Iowa last Thursday.

Smithpeters was 2-of-5 from the field and 2-of-4 from 3-point range, while knocking down 1-of-4 free throws and grabbed five rebounds (three defensive) in the win.

Before Christmas, Smithpeters had nine points in SIU's 74-64 win against Duquesne and another eight points in a 86-64 loss to Nevada, both out in Las Vegas.

Justin Carpenter - SEMO (Mt. Carmel HS)

Carpenter had four points on 2-of-7 shooting in SEMO's 94-72 loss to Belmont last Thursday in Cape Girardeau. Carpenter played 19 minutes and grabbed two rebounds.

Austin Wills - Trevecca Nazarene (Benton)

Wills had two points in Trevecca Nazarene's 75-67 loss to Lake Erie Saturday night.

The former Benton High School standout came off the bench, playing 11 minutes and going 1-of-6 from the field.

Alison Webb - Lindenwood (Goreville)

Webb led Lindenwood with 29 points on 13-of-16 shooting from the field, finishing with a double-double as the senior grabbed 10 rebounds in the Lynx 111-91 win over Missouri Baptist U Saturday night.

Webb went 3-of-4 from the foul line and had nine defensive rebounds to go with three blocks, one steal and one assist.

Tyra Buss - Indiana (Mt. Carmel)

Buss had a team-high 24 points as Indiana fell to Ohio State 85-70 Sunday in Columbus, Ohio.

Buss was 6-of-16 from the floor and 5-of-8 from 3-point range, while knocking down 7-of-7 foul shots. The IU senior played all 40 minutes, finishing with two rebounds and one steal.

Last Thursday, Buss scored eight points after being held to 2-for-11 shooting in the Hoosiers' 46-68 against Michigan State.

Buss was 1-of-7 from 3-point range and hit 3-of-4 free throws, while grabbing two rebounds, handing out four assists and finishing with one steal in 38 minutes. Buss is now seven points shy of moving into second place all-time (Karna Abram, 1910) and 14 points from breaking the school record (Denise Jackson, 1917).
