Bulldogs fare well at Skull & Crossbones Tournament

Harrisburg finished ninth out of 17 teams at this past weekend's Skull & Crossbones Tournament in Cumberland.

With a limited roster, Greg Langley's group came away with one first place finish and three third place finishes.

"It wasn't a bad finish 'team wise' taking only eight guys for this tournament," Langley said. "We have had our share of injuries and sickness. I thought we wrestled pretty well with the guys we took, but I did see some things we need to continue to work on."

Kody Cavender (138 pounds) had the lone first place finish for the Bulldogs as the junior is now 11-1 on the season and beat Fithian (Oakwood) Caleb Lashuay with a pinfall at 5:53.

Landon Hicks (120) took third, beating Warrensburg-Lathan's Liam Gallagher 11-2 with a major decision win. Chandler Bowling (145) had a third place finish, as he knocked off Robinson's Alex Hermann with a 18-7 major decision win. Jimmy Hicks (152) had the other third place finish as the junior, who is now 13-5 on the season, beat Warrensburg-Lathan's Davis Brumbaugh with a 9-0 major decision win.

Mt. Carmel won the event with 191 points, while Monticello (179.50), Lawrenceville (146.00), Fithian (144.00) and Toledo (130.00) rounded out the top five, respectively.

Mt. Olive (113.50) was sixth and Warrensburg-Lathan (113.00) was seventh, while Robinson (96.00) was eighth and Harrisburg (95.00) was ninth, with Effingham (92.50) finishing 10th.

Sparta (77), Shelbyville (65), Carlyle (53), Decatur Eisenhower (49), Benton (32.5), Herrin (15) and Metro-East Lutheran (3) rounded out the scoring.

Harrisburg returns to action on December 30th in the Carterville Duals.
