Prep Golf: Bulldogs quest for crown comes up short at SIRR Conference meet

Staff Report

CARBONDALE - It's been since the 2009-10 season that the Harrisburg girls' golf team captured the Southern Illinois River-To-River Ohio Division golf crown. The long wait will continue.

Massac County, which has won four straight and 19 total in the 25 year history of the conference, shot a 356 to take the top spot Tuesday at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale.

Herrin was second with a 453 and Harrisburg had a 495. There were no team scores for West Frankfort and Murphysboro. Benton did not field a girls' golf team this fall.

For the Bulldogs, Gabby Adams turned in the top score, shooting a 54-52 106 and Alli Ferrell was second with a 60-61 121. Annabella Robinson went 64-66 for a 130 and Madeline DeNeal shot a 70-68 for a 138.

Harrisburg returns to action Friday in a home triangular match against Carmi-White County and Hamilton County. The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season next week, at Herrin on Monday and closing out the season next Thursday hosting Eldorado.
