Legion Baseball: Post 167 picks up win over Evansville

The Harrisburg Post 167 American Legion's see-saw summer continued Saturday, this time on the upswing.

Harrisburg doubled up Evansville Funkhouser 6–3 at home to improve to 3-6 on the season.

Offensively, Dallas Reynolds paced the Harrisburg offense, going 2-for-4 at the plate, including a home run. Reynolds finished with a pair of RBI and scored a run.

Cameron Wendler also had two RBI and was one of four other players to have at least one hit, joining Jordan Gould, Brody Walker, Dylan Schwartz and Kale Oglesby.

Schwartz and Oglesby each had an RBI and a run scored, while Walker and Gould scored a run as well.

On the bump, Carson Burtis got the win in relief of Justice Hill. Burtis went four innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out five and walking three. Hill went five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, while striking out five and walking five.

Late last week, Harrisburg lost a pair of District 21 games on the road at Metropolis and on Tuesday, Harrisburg fell 12-9 to Benton.

In the loss to Benton, Harrisburg used five different pitchers as Wendler, who got the start, took the loss.

Wendler combined with Ben Byrd, Austin Stevens, Reynolds and Walker to throw a 12-hitter. Benton scored 12 runs (10 earned) while Post 167 struck out five and walked 13.

At the dish, Gould, Reynolds, Schwartz and Josh Turnage all had multiple hits as Reynolds drove in two runs. Gould and Turnage each had one RBI. Gould, Reynolds, Schwartz all scored one run, while Turnage scored twice.

Ethan Ashby, Hill and Walker had one hit, while Walker scored one run, as did Kale Oglesby.

Harrisburg's game with McLeansboro was postponed Sunday due to weather and will be made up as part of a double header Wednesday at home. Harrisburg will be at Owensboro, Ky. on Thursday and at Mt. Vernon, Ind., on Saturday. Post 167 will clost out the week playing host Fairfield Sunday in a double header starting at 1:30 p.m.
