GOREVILLE -- Just when Steeleville needed them the most, the Warriors' strengths during their postseason run - pitching and defense - struggled mightily on Saturday.

Connor Johnson, Braden Webb and Brant Glidewell hit home runs, and Goreville took control of the game with a five-run second inning en route to a 10-2 win over Steeleville in the championship game of the Blackcats' own Class 1A sectional.

With the victory, Goreville (25-7) advanced to play Effingham St. Anthony at the SIU-Carbondale Super-sectional at Abe Martin Field on Monday. Steeleville's season ended at 16-8.
